Honouring history.

We had the privilege of capturing the Wadjemup Wirin Bidi (Spirit Trail) Commemoration Ceremony on Wadjemup / Rottnest Island. This significant event was a powerful act of truth-telling and memorialisation, honouring the histories and experiences of those who came before us. Through our lens, we aimed to preserve the profound emotions and cultural significance of the day - from the heartfelt ceremonies to the moments of reflection that connected the past with aspirations for a more truthful future for Western Australia.

Wadjemup Wirin Bidi – Capturing Ceremony and Cultural Healing

Jalani Media was also honoured to document Wadjemup Wirin Bidi (Spirit Trail in Noongar), a powerful week of ceremony and remembrance held on Wadjemup / Rottnest Island. Aboriginal people from communities across Western Australia gathered to carry out Sorry Business and commemorate the Aboriginal men and boys who were imprisoned on the island between 1838 and 1931. Through respectful storytelling, we captured moments of cultural healing, reflection, and unity on Country, honouring the deep history and spirit of this sacred place.
